In this issue of our ModeStar interviews, we get to know @Albert.Chu — an emerging fashion merchandiser who has a unique point-of-view on aesthetics and personal style. Get to know him via the interview below.

ModeSens: Since when did you get into fashion? What has fashion brought for your life?
@Albert.Chu: Since middel school, the kids that I grew up with loved Jordans. It was expensive to own a Jordan piece back then. Air Force Ones were also hot back then. I guess since then I started noticing what’s in trend and also started following personalities like Edison Chen. Brands that I grew to like are CLOT, BAPE, Adidas, Converse and other sportswear and streetwear brands. After highschool, I got more exposed to more designer brands and copped my first pair of Gucci sneakers; that felt amazing. Fashion’s taught me to seek a certain quality of life and spend more time investing in myself.

ModeSens: Money aside, what’s your ideal way to live?
@Albert.Chu: I’m still quite young so I want to hustle everyday and become an outstanding, suited-up professional.

ModeSens: Being someone who follows fashion, what do you usually like to purchase?
@Albert.Chu: White tee, suit, dress shirt and dress shoes are my classic go-to’s. I’ve been gearing more towards blazer jacket paired with a white tee lately for a sharper look.

ModeSens: What brands or designers do you like?
@Albert.Chu: Since LV changed designer towards a younger crowd, I got more into Acne Studios for it’s clean lines and ease to match.
ModeSens: What's your favorite style? Do you like what’s in or like going after your own style?
@Albert.Chu: I mostly start referencing from runway styles, picking individual pieces that I like and then making it my own. I lean toward choosing more alternative colors and fabrics, matched with some accessories to contrast.

ModeSens: After studying in the States for four years, do you feel like American culture has had an impact on your style?
@Albert.Chu: I think that people in the States dress very differently from Europeans — Americans lean more monochrome with black, white, grey and blue as the main colors, and focus on layers and attentions to detail. I notice that lots of people like to remix how things are meant to be worn. I love the kind of freedom and rebelliousness they have. There’s always a bit of surprise from the intentional clashing of colors, textures or layers.
ModeSens: Is there a particular style that you haven’t had the courage to venture into?
@Albert.Chu: I guess it’d have to be a full-body floral get-up. Too much real estate of flowers, dots, leopard print, patterns usually does counter of what the original elements do. I think it becomes a bit too much and tacky.
