Gucci Belts: A Comprehensive Styling Guide
How to wear a Gucci belt: a styling guide
Are Gucci belts still in style? Yes, more than ever! From fashion week runways to social media, the Gucci belt has been everywhere since the brand’s 2015 resurgence under former creative director Alessandro Michele.
That means it’s time to dig out this iconic leather classic from your wardrobe (or purchase a new one to play with). This casual-cool staple goes with everything, but if you’re stuck for ideas, here’s how to wear a Gucci belt to keep it looking fresh.
With a dress
Cinch in the waist of your little black or white dress with a Gucci belt. Add a pair of pumps and tie up your hair for a night out or dress it down with sneakers and a cardigan.
With jeans and a blazer
A jeans and blazer combo is another classic look that you can play around with in terms of proportions and materials. The addition of a Gucci belt really ties this outfit together, whether you opt for a tucked-in knit top or loose-fitting white blouse.
With shorts and combat boots
For a tough, street-ready style, pair your buckle belt with a pair of cut-off denim shorts and combat boots. Tuck in a lace bodysuit for contrast or add an oversized sweater. Men can wear this style too, with a T-shirt or button-down shirt.
With a monochrome suit
Get suited for the office with a pair of matching separates. Coordinating is simple with a blazer and matching trousers or skirt. Choose from basic black or neutral tones, then add a coordinating Gucci belt. For a sleek monochrome look, go for all-black, or let your belt provide a pop of contrast with its metallic logo hardware. This can break up your look with added visual interest.
Over a jacket
Trench coats and oversized blazers are musts for transitional dressing, but why not spice them up with a Gucci belt? Wear it in place of the coat’s regular belt for a fun, flattering twist on the usual profile.
What size Gucci belt should I get?
The Gucci website says that for Double G belts, you measure your size from the outer edge of the belt buckle to the third hole of the strap. For standard belts, you can measure from the start of the strap to the third hole.
Of course, sizing varies depending on how you style your belt, and whether you go low- or high-rise. Gucci’s sizing is based on wearing it at your hips rather than waist. Generally, Gucci belts run a bit small so you’re better off sizing up if you’re not sure.
Can I get my Gucci belt resized?
Gucci will add up to two holes to the belt strap for you at their stores, though any more than this could compromise the strap. (This is why it’s a good idea to size up if you’re between sizes!)
If you don’t have a Gucci store nearby, you can visit a cobbler and ask them to punch new holes to adjust the size. Alternatively, you can try DIY-ing it yourself with a leather hole punch tool. This is the same that the cobbler uses, and it gives you full custom potential over the size of your belt – add as many holes as you like – just be sure to space them evenly with measuring tape.
How much is a Gucci belt?
The price can vary depending on style, material, and collection, but usually Gucci belts fall somewhere in the $300 to $600 range.
