Red ALERT
Red ALERT

At least once this season, we beg you to leave your comfort-zone clothing hanging in your closet and instead reach for something red. The hot hue doesn’t take as much confidence as you think to wear it and it’s almost guaranteed to make you feel bolder – even without the compliments you’re sure to get. The best pieces? A scarlet suit is a perfect balance of seductive and kick-ass, or you could soften the statement and mix a red knit with wide-leg pants. And then there are the accessories: Gucci’s vintage-inspired Ophidia bag, Gianvito Rossi’s fun feathered sandals…we could go on. And in fact we have, for an entire issue.
A showstopper dress
While the awe-inspiring powers of a knockout red dress have never been in dispute, our favorite designers have taken things up a notch for Cruise ’18 with directional cuts and bold silhouettes. From Rejina Pyo’s flamenco-style ruffles to Johanna Ortiz’s one-sleeved wonder, there’s never been a better time to be a scarlet woman.
Red all over
The tonal dressing trend is gathering pace. While it used to be reserved for neutrals, this season’s most stylish stars have taken it to the next level by going head to toe in bold, bright red. The key to nailing this look is to play with proportions and textures. Follow in the perennially chic footsteps of Giovanna Battaglia Englebert (far right) by contrasting a silk blouse with a leather skirt. Side note: wearing it tucked in creates a strong silhouette.
Cult crimson accessories
A flash of color is a sure-fire way to reinvigorate your more basic pieces, and this season there are some particularly lust-worthy accessories that will do just that. From Gucci’s vintage-inspired Ophidia bag to Loewe’s sumptuous, slouchy Hobo bag and Proenza Schouler’s graphic kitten heels, these are red-hot now and forever.
Scarlet shoes
Party season is upon us, making the perfect dancing shoes an imperative purchase. Stilettos and dancing ’til the wee hours might sound contradictory, but practical heel heights and sturdy ankle straps will minimize the burn. From Saint Laurent’s statement heels to Gianvito Rossi’s fun feathers, these are made for dancing, though you might need a cab home.
