With Ease: Introducing Dries Van Noten Men’s at SSENSE
Shaniqwa Jarvis Shoots the Spring/Summer 2019 Collection, Available Now
“Creating clothes is a very emotional thing,” said Dries Van Noten in a recent interview. “And I think you have to be careful not to use that too much. To place it in the right moment.” Van Noten—one of the most successful independent fashion designers and an original member of the Antwerp Six—is an expert at placing emotion, a master of understated ease. For SS19 he designed see-through long sleeve knits and polos in apricot orange and dusty rose, the fabric reminiscent of Peter Tosh in a mesh marina tank. Track pants with vibrant stripes down the side, the kind that Bob Marley might have juggled a football in. Relaxed silk shirts in patterns that reference the work of famed Danish mid-century interior designer Verner Panton. Best worn unbuttoned. Photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis traveled to L.A. to capture the low-key luxury of the Dries Van Noten SS19 menswear collection for its SSENSE debut.
