First created in 1993 by Italian designer and architect Guido Venturini, Alessi's Firebird gas lighter was the result of a design workshop that looked at objects' power and ability to 'inspire, intrigue and amuse'. Once a pop design icon, the erotically shaped sculpture has been redesigned almost 30 years later with an electric arc lighter. The rechargeable device provides the heat needed to light everything from cigarettes and cigars to gas burners and paper in a fireplace, without creating a real flame.
