Capello Shell print wallpaper was discovered on the back pages of a Liberty London archive book, where it began its life in the Lancashire mills. The design was inspired by the rhyme, 'Mary Mary quite contrary'; this nursery rhyme was chanted to Mary in India when she began gathering mounds of earth to make an imaginary garden. Today, sea shells and cockle shells evoke symmetry and perfection, along with memories of the sea and the beauty of collecting, alluded to in the Secret Garden.
