Great artists throughout history have expressed the human experience in a universal language of form and beauty. The Montblanc Masters of Art Collection honors their eternal contribution to the quest for perfection in art – a quest Montblanc both celebrates and participates in. Pierre-Auguste Renoir is one of the most prominent forerunners of modernism, whose sun-drenched paintings helped set the tone for an entire movement: Impressionism. Acknowledging with respect the pioneering achievement of this distinguished and fascinating French Impressionist, Montblanc has created the Masters of Art Homage to Pierre-Auguste Renoir Limited Edition 4810. As if looking over Renoir’s shoulder, the edition is made of olive wood and daubed with paint as if plucked straight from the artist’s hand. Renoir himself would probably have chosen no other wood, as he loved the old olive trees in his garden in the south of France, immortalising many magnificent specimens in his pictures. Renoir captured moments of changing mood and recorded them on canvas using vibrant colours and rapid brushstrokes. An eye-catching feature of the edition is the gold-coated clip in the form of two brushes like those used by Renoir to produce both the fine details and the more expansive surfaces of his masterpieces. The cap top is adorned with ultramarine precious resin encircling the Montblanc emblem. The cap top ring bears the engraving 1874, the year this new generation of artists, the Impressionists, had its first exhibition. Hence, the year 1874 marks the birth of Impressionism as a movement in its own right. The delicate folding fan with two tassels that adorns the handcrafted, solid Au 750 gold nib is a tribute to the significance of a fan, an accessory which is featured in a lot of his works, especially in many of his perceptive portraits of women. As a tribute to Renoir’s drawing skills, a silverpoint tip made of soft Ag 925 sterling silver is integrated into the gold-coated cone, providing the means to create silverpoint sketches of one's own.
