These boots run true to size. I normally wear a size 10.5D, and the 10.5D boots fit me quite well. The 4473 is the most popular boot for firefighters ever made by Red Wing Shoes. They are NFPA certified fire boots, and measure 8 inches from the bottom of the heel to the top of they boot, have melt resistant lug soles, and are made of Black Star leather, which is an oil-tanned leather with high heat resistance. Though the boots aren't initially waterproof, they can be treated with waterproof conditioners, such as Red Wing's Naturseal, in order to make them waterproof. Despite it's popularity among firefighters, it's uncertain if Red Wing will bring these back into production, so they may not be available much longer.  The zippers included in some of the boots are from the original zipper kits made by Red Wing Shoes, which is regarded as one of the best zipper inserts ever made, and meet the standards set by the NFPA.
