Schiaparelli iconic tromp l’oeil knit from the 70s. A vintage gem steeped in fashion history. This specific pullover is an early 1970s reissue of iconic Schiaparelli artifact, her 1927 tromp l’oei knit sweater. This knit was her first ever foray into the fashion world. Yes, before her couture shows and surrealist jewelry (inspired by her days chilling with Man Ray, Dali, Duchamp ofc) More context on this jumper: in 1927. Elsa Schiaparelli crafted a black-and-white hand-knit sweater with the emblematic hope al motif. As seen here the pullover features an optical illusion effect of a bow, pierced heart. skeleton, sailor bib. Evidently the revived house of Schiaparelli as we know it today. Incorporates some of these montages in recent designs, a loving tribute to the trailblazing Italian born designer. This archival piece is authenticated & very limited (in fact I can’t find another version on the market right now !). The sweater is made from a soft merino wool blend, following Elsa’s original 1920s design accurately, from the craftsmanship , fabrication and design itself. Interestingly Schiaparelli hardly had any formal design training , but with her boundless imagination and uncompromising vision, no matter how unconventional it may seem at the time, the artist rose up the ranks of fashion joining , Chanel, and Vionnet as three of the most formidable designers from that era. Size on label: completely faded out. I’m guessing an M. But please refer to measurement below. Measurement estimates Chest 36” Waist 34” Length 20 5” In very good condition. She has been very well cared for. Minor discoloration in some small areas. Will give her a little bit more TLC restore her to excellent shape.
