product description
Vivienne Westwood Autumn/Winter 1993 « Anglomania » collection black wool skirt suit with velvet collar and pocket flaps, variation of the look 10 on the runway. In her A/W 1993 “Anglomania” collection Vivienne Westwood affirmed her passion for British traditional tailoring while proposing a sumptuous dialogue between French historical fashion and British craftsmanship. The word “Anglomania” referred to the French passion for all things British during the 1780s: tweeds, tartans and above all the functional sobriety inspired by outdoor clothing and considered a progressive alternative to the pomp of the Ancien Régime. The collection thus enabled Westwood to pay tribute to her native country. “Anglomania” also highlights the contradictions of the British designer’s work: her interest in traditions and tailoring side by side with an exploration of sexuality and women’s independence and power. The beautifully cut jacket is cinched at the waist and features a straight buttoning with 4 orb buttons, black velvet collar, two side pocket with black velvet pocket flaps, cuffs with 2 orb buttons. Lining with orb logos. The miniskirt has a small train that attracts the attention to the backside by creating fluid movement when the wearer is walking. Brand label: yellow on red “Vivienne Westwood. Made in Italy”. Yellow on red label was Westwood’s label for her main runway line in the late 80s and at the beginning of the 90s. Fabric tag: 100% wool. Made in Italy. Size tag: jacket 38 IT (Xs) / skirt 40 IT (S) Measures (taken flat): Jacket: Shoulders: 39 cm / Armpit to armpit: 42 cm / Waist: 36 cm / Length: 69 cm. Skirt: Waist: 32 cm / Hips: 45 cm / Length: 45 cm. Excellent condition, no issues.
about VIVIENNE WESTWOOD
Dame Vivienne Westwood is an English fashion designer and businesswoman, largely responsible for bringing modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream. Westwood came to public notice when she made clothes for Malcolm McLaren's boutique in the King's Road, which became famous as "SEX". It was their ability to synthesise clothing and music that shaped the 1970s UK punk scene, dominated by McLaren's band, the Sex Pistols. She was deeply inspired by the shock-value of punk - "seeing if one could put a spoke in the system".
