It's hard to believe the Burberry Check we all know and love today was the result of a 'happy accident'. First used as the lining of the brand's outerwear, it eventually caught the eye of an ingenious buyer who recognised its statement-making potential and ability to command attention, spontaneously creating an umbrella cover from the fabric to present to British ambassador, Sir Patrick Reilly, in 1967. Today, the heritage pattern is still as relevant (and covetable) as it was decades ago, and proof of that is this pair of technical cotton shorts.
