The fashion definition of neutral style

There’s been a big change in what men and women are wearing. More and more, the boundary is blurred. It’s definitely reflected socially and politically, especially in the fashion industry of now. Being a female is fluid and the feminine style is thus no longer bound to narrow lanes of dresses and laces. In this issue, we meet @BLKprincess who’s a definitive example of someone who’s confident, handsome example of gender-neutrality in both personality and style.

ModeSens:ModeSens: Since when did you get into fashion? What has fashion brought for your life?
@BLKprincess:When I was younger, I didn’t quite have a grasp of what style means — it was simply being a bit choosy about what I wore. My curiosity for style grew unconsciously as I started paying attention to costumes in films. My first encounter of Yohji Yamamoto wasn’t from the brand itself or from a presentation, but rather from a film collaboration with Takeshi Kitano. From there on, I grew more aware and interested in street style photography and frequented a lot of China-based sites about street style. Photography was my major in college; I read a ton of fashion magazines, autobiographies, and documentaries surrounding fashion during that time. I also find inspiration from people that I admire. Like when Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their debut album, I adored Karen O’s look so much. All in all, I think style brings a lot of curiousity, fun and leisure to my life.
INUIKII
ModeSens: Being fashion aficionado, what do you usually like to purchase?
@BLKprincess:I love buying accessories, sunglasses, shoes and some vintage goods.
ModeSens: What designers or fashion icons do you like?
@BLKprincess:Maison Margiela, Comme des Garçons, Marni, Jil Sander, SUPREME. Jean Paul Gaultier and Yohji Yamamoto are designers who I respect. In terms of style icons, I’m into Yōsuke Kubozuka — he’s really got this knack for looking good in most things.
COACH
ModeSens: What's your favorite style? Do you like what’s in trend or like going after your own style?
@BLKprincess:The main difference is that I choose to wear gender-less pieces. Being gender-neutral gives me a sense of freedom and comfort that’s super key for me. Slowly figuring out and constructing my own style identity is also something I enjoy. That is to say that I don’t really follow trends.
NIKE
ModeSens: What kind of style or piece is something that’d be a challenge for you to pull off?
@BLKprincess:I think that tight full body dresses are pretty tough for me to pull off. I’d feel like I’m someone else...
MARNI
MAISON MARGIELA
ModeSens: There seems to be some streetwear influence to what you wear. Do you have any tips for others who want to add streetwear into their looks?
@BLKprincess:Your outfits don’t really need a ton of influences. Streetwear is about freedom to self-express. One tip might be considering some accessories.
ModeSens: Winter is still looming large. Any tips for being fashionable in the cold?
@BLKprincess:I’m terrified of cold so leather jackets, puffers, wool coats are my go-to’s. I also love a good hoodie for the winter that’s easy to match with other pieces. Functional and casual. Gotta protect ya head!
ModeSens:ModeSens: Shopping season is almost over. Pick up any thing to treat yourself?
@BLKprincess:It’s been a bit too busy to properly shop. I only got a pair of Inuikii snow boots and Maison Margiela arm sleeves.
BOTTEGA VENETA
ModeSens:ModeSens: Being someone who’s into style, who’s your future fashion goal?
@BLKprincess: I hope to soon have my own clothing label.
ModeSens: What’s your first impression of ModeSens? What sets ModeSens apart from other platforms?
@BLKprincess:ModeSens has been such an useful shopping tool for me. The interactivity and the focus of the platform is really awesome. The global price comparison tool is super easy to use and have brought a lot of savings for me. Besides, the influencer platform is great way for style bloggers to start earning commissions.
