LOOKING FOR MEANING

Born in the 90s, body positivity speaks to women who no longer identify with striving for perfection and want to make beauty synonymous with looking natural, without feeling guilty about it.

Beyond self-acceptance, body positivity also encourages efforts in support of sustainable and responsible patterns of consumption. Anxious to consume less but better, women are now looking for meaning in their purchases too, so as to live in harmony with their bodies as well as their environment.

Natural beauty entrepreneur Tata Harper defines body positivity as "physical and psychological balance" and bodily well-being. According to the entrepreneur: "We are gradually moving away from this obsession with youth by any means and reassessing our standards of beauty in a positive way - the little inner voice destroying our self-confidence and positivity has got to be silenced".

Through this process, body positivity essentially means adopting a positive mindset at all times.

CHANTELLE

For over 140 years, CHANTELLE has been using its expertise to create modern yet timeless lingerie for women. Since the arrival of its new Creative Director Renaud Cambuzat, the brand has set out to rejuvenate its image and positioning, focusing on body positivity. Renaud Cambuzat explained: “The first thing that came as a bit of a surprise when entering the lingerie business was how I found the conventions regarding the products, as well as image and the way women were represented quite stereotypical. So, our aim was to put FORWARD a fresher image and potentially adjust its positioning. Our approach is much more fashion-oriented and contemporary now”.

YSÉ

In 2012, Clara Blocman created Ysé aged 23, encouraged by the idea of making lingerie for the woman she wanted to be; lingerie that naturally enhanced her silhouette, without artifice or looking classically seductive. At the time, she couldn't find any lingerie to Suit her and instead decided to start making underwear herself to make the most of her small chest. So, Clara Blocman designed pieces in the spirit of enhancing chests of every kind without any trickery. The brand consequently expanded its range from an A cup to an E cup. Her mantra? Nothing is more beautiful than being natural!

To support and promote this message of body positivity, Clara Blocman launched a series of podcasts this year called INTIMITE, alongside photo essays and videos. Intimate and often sensitive encounters with women in the real world.
