The replacement to your double-cleanse, this treatment cleanser deeply cleans the skin, removing dirt, pollution and makeup, without stripping or disrupting the skin's pH. The soap-free and sulfate-free formula actively repairs the skin barrier and replenishes the topical microbiome by using prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics to leave your skin balanced, smooth and nourished. Your skin is home to trillions of microbes (bacteria) which perform a symbiotic function on our skin barrier, helping to maintain pH balance and protect the skin. Of the trillions of bacteria making up your microbiome it's estimated that 26% of that is found in your gut, while 21% is found on your skin. Much like our gut, everyday stressors actively impair our skin's microbiome and barrier. This includes pollution, stress and over washing, with the main culprit being the overloading of active ingredients on the skin. Most cleansers are too harsh for the skin as they use surfactants (foaming agents) to strip the oil from the skin, leaving it tight, dehydrated and imbalanced. Our skin is naturally slightly acidic (around pH 4.5) but foaming cleansers are usually very alkaline (around pH 7 or 8) which creates a breeding ground for pathogenic bacteria, upsetting our topical microbiome. BARRIER CULTURE CLEANSER uses sulfate- and soap-free, gentle and biodegradable cleansing agents derived from apples to clean the skin without stripping or irritating it. Unlike living bacteria which is hard to stabilize or maintain or pasteurized bacteria that doesn't perform any action on the skin, the format we use is both viable and stable. Our Lactobacillus Plantarum extract is the first processed probiotic with an intact cell wall, allowing it to deliver the full specific properties of the live bacteria though it is technically inert.
